K1 Britannia established the program K1 DIRECT after the devastation from Hurricane Irma in 2017. K1 led many fronts of the relief efforts on the island, however they noted that many of the volunteers were not prepared for such a disaster. Since 2018 K1 Britannia started with some emergency training sessions, however in 2019 only several volunteers were able to partake with training sessions regarding disaster management/preparedness. These training sessions were successful and they would like to share these skills with the rest of their volunteers. Their proposal is to execute several training sessions for the rest of their volunteers.
K1 Britannia Foundation was established in 2014 and it was originally founded as a maritime foundation but has grown to encompass a variety of charitable projects with a strong focus on the evolving social issues faced by youth on St. Maarten.
Over the years, K1 has focused on rehabilitating and providing opportunities for vulnerable & troubled youth, while also helping children in foster care through an array of programs. K1 maintains a large network of local and international volunteers through its volunteer program and initiated a disaster relief program due to the dire need immediately after Hurricane Irma on St. Maarten in 2017.
