This project, which is a continuation of the Quick Win-2 project aims to:
1. formally train and certify 12 young adults (18-34 years) in scuba diving skills (PADI) needed to undertake underwater surveying, mapping and removal of small debris
2. train and certify 12 young adults (18-34 years) in entry level maritime crew certification (STCW2010) which focusses on Safety at Sea
3. Use the trained volunteers to remove small debris from previously surveyed and mapped areas
This project is seen as a unique opportunity to give local vulnerable youngsters marketable skills that could help them secure a job in the expanding maritime industry. Kidz at Sea collaborates closely with Nature Foundation on this project.
Kidz at Sea Foundation was established to create employment opportunities in the marine industry for local Sint Maarten youth by providing formal marine training and certification in areas such as boat building, sail making and sailing.
