About the Project

The Vervet monkey population has exploded since the first group of monkeys escaped from the local zoo in 1995. Hurricane Irma reduced the amount of food available in the wild causing the monkeys to enter several neighborhoods looking for food. This invasive species is causing a lot of damage to fruit trees, the budding agricultural sector and the residents. This project aims to track, map, determine the size and distribution of the Vervet monkey population. The study will establish sustainable solutions for managing the monkey population and restoring the natural ecological balance.
