NKWOK has implemented two previous R4CR funded projects utilizing a garden to showcase different forms of sustainable agriculture. A practical educational approach is utilized in which different vulnerable groups benefit from visiting and working in the garden, such as youth and differently-abled.
Under the third phase of the support to Nature Nurtures, NKWOK focuses on continuing the project by operating and exploring 3 farming systems (hydroponic, aquaponic, organic). There is a special focus on using agriculture/nature as a way of dealing with experiences during/post hurricane Irma and activities for special needs groups. Cooperation is continued with the White and Yellow Cross, Sister Basilia Center and the Mental Health Foundation.
The grant will be used to purchase the materials needed for planting, such as organic fertilizers, seeds, gloves and for resources such as personnel costs.
This project will benefit 100 children in the after-school program (4 to 16 years), 15 special needs clients from the Sister Basilia Center, 5 persons in the community service program, 5 persons from the Mental Health Foundation and 20 paying clients per month who purchase the harvest products in support of the foundation.
No Kidding with Our Kids Foundation has been organizing after school activities for children for the last 27 years. The foundation aims to offer creative, recreational and educational after school activities that stimulate new impulses and get children acquainted with good ways of spending their leisure time.
