The SSRF lost all its assets (building, boats etc.) during hurricane Irma. Two second-hand vessels were purchased afterwards with the assistance of the Dutch Disaster Fund, but still require additional repairs to be fully functional. This project focusses on the repair and functional use of the larger (longer range) of the two vessels, the “Dolphin Rescue”. Most of the work will be carried out by specialized third party suppliers, under supervision of the SSRF project coordinator.
The SSRF has been operational since 1980 in assisting mariners, swimmers and boaters in emergency and rescue situations. The organization is run by volunteers who do all operational activities and most of the maintenance. Besides rescue operations SSRF is also involved with training volunteers and assisting during community events on the water, such as regatta’s, swimming events etc.
