The main goal of this project is to source used playground and gym equipment made available for free by municipalities and schools in the Netherlands and ship them to St. Maarten to upgrade local playground and gym facilities.
Besides covering the costs of preparing, sorting, shipping, and installing the equipment at schools locally, Stichting EGO will implement a program to promote exercise and healthy habits. The program also has a research component, supported by the American University of the Caribbean measuring health among children with increased physical activity and improved eating habits.
The main beneficiaries of this project are the school children under the age of 12 living in the communities of Simpson Bay and Belvedere
Stichting EGO was founded in 2003 and is focused on education and youth development. Their most visible program is the operation of afternoon school programs at four different locations which are all connected to Catholic Primary School and open to all St. Maarten children.
