Adult literacy is a hidden problem on Sint Maarten. This project by USM builds on the experience gained with the literacy program that was designed by USM for the Emergency Income Support and Training Program (EISTP). During the implementation of the EISTP it was found that more than 10%of the adult student applicants lacked basic literacy skills. This project aims to help this group of adults overcome the literacy gap.
The University of St Martin (USM) was founded in 1989 as an institute of higher learning for students of both sides of the island. USM is also committed to the continuous development of non-academic skills programs that will improve the quality of life of the people of Sint Maarten/St. Martin.
